TITLE: The Heart of the Matter
FANDOM: Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
DISCLAIMER: I don't own Arthur Dent or Ford Prefect. Those are DNA's, may he rest in peace.
RATING: PG perhaps, for an alcohol reference?
CHALLENGE: "Mood" at

WORD COUNT: 100
NOTES: "Eleanor Rigby" is a lovely song by the Beatles.
The door, as always, was almost orgasmically pleased just to open for him. The darkness of the room beyond, however, wasn't as familiar.
"Arthur?" Ford asked tentatively, feeling silly as he took a few steps inside.
The lone figure sitting on the edge of the bed lifted his head and stared.
"There you are." Ford lightened his voice for a moment, but quieted it down when Arthur didn't seem to react. "What're you doing in here?"
Arthur stared at him. A bottle dangled from his lax fingers.
"Arthur?" Ford frowned.
Finally, in a soft voice, "I don't have anyone anymore."

Date: 2005-05-12 12:09 am (UTC)Thanks.
I've been worried that my writing style might not be carefree enough for H2G2 writing, but then I was just like, "Ah, fuck it," and went ahead.
So, hey, thank you for the kind feedback. ^_^

Date: 2005-05-12 02:08 am (UTC)It killed me. Okay thanks.
I think this is your best drabble yet. Arthur has every right to be depressed or unhappy or driven to drink, and you just summed up his entire life story in one drunken sentence. Amazing.
