He knows.
How could he bally well not know, is my question. Jeeves undoubtedly eats all manner of fish, morning, noon, and night, after all. To think that I could keep this secret from him, after all the years he's been in my service would be a laugh -- no, an insult -- to his good sense.
That the Wooster heart has chosen a new soul upon which to bestow its affections is not a new occurrence, but the shape of said s. would certainly be cause for alarm.
The only happy thought I had out of the whole rummy thing was that Jeeves would not have to extricate me from another engagement.
No, the situation was much worse. For he to have to suffer his employer's longing gaze...
I should let him go. It would only be right.
The horror of the thought that I would do without Jeeves came upon me rather like a bally shade as soon as the sun fell.
But, at the same time... the Wooster eyes slid over and appraised him.
Jeeves was shimmering around the room, rearranging pictures and tea trays and that sort of thing, seemingly unaware of the eyes following his every move.
He was a tall chap, with dark hair and sort of chameleon blue eyes that could change to a very dark color in just the right light. Full of frame and figure, the only deficiency seemed to be a crooked nose -- won from a tustle in his boyhood, no doubt. His hands, with long, full fingers, manipulated the smallest picture frame with the greatest of ease.
I dare say it was his hands that I noticed first, and then his arms. Strong, stalwart specimens, his arms. Able to lift the young master's worries or a tea tray with nary a problem. My first inkling that my feelings for Jeeves had ventured beyond the old feudal spirit was when I had first wished he would fold me in his arms and never let go.
Feeling the weight in my chest return, I sagged back into the old armchair, sucked some more on my cup of tea, and sighed heavily. "I say, Jeeves. Has there ever been a day when you wonder whether or not to go back to bed and wait for tomorrow to come, what?"
"I must confess to having such urges, yes." Jeeves replied, turning to face me. "Do you wish to return to bed, sir?"
I glanced up at him and shook my head. "No, no. I think I'll go down to the Drones club, see who's in, what."
A line appeared between Jeeves' eyebrows, but he didn't comment. "Very good, sir."
"Right ho, then," I said, getting up the steam before standing and grabbing my coat. "I'm off then."
Jeeves nodded. "Very good, sir."
When I closed the door behind me, I felt this horrid sensation that things were going to change.

It seems Jeeves has his work cut out for him, yet again. Shall we just imagine how he gets on with it, or do you think you'll be giving him a hand? ;-)

As for Jeeves and what's going to happen after this, I have plans, though I have to admit to being a bit intimidated by such a positive response thus far. :D
