Two Drabbles [L&O series]
TITLE: Another Partner
DISCLAIMER: I don't own Mike Logan, Carolyn Barek, or James Deakins. They were created by Dick Wolf, and I didn't make any money off this.

He didn't get Deakins sometimes.
Barek was a former FBI agent -- Lennie was probably rolling in his grave at that one -- a bit weird, a little scatter-brained. I mean, how many people do you know actually talk to themselves? Mike wasn't sure he wanted to know.
Of all the partners he could've been assigned to work with, why this one? Why not somebody like Lennie or Phil or Max? Someone like that, but a little younger.
Hell, he could teach these kids a thing or two.
If that didn't have Lennie howling in Heaven, he didn't know what would.

It was two years to the day when Ed let slip his initial impression of Joe to the man himself. Joe had blinked at having been fingered as a son of some Chicago crime family, but had laughed it off over drinks.
When Ed broke his leg after a suspect shoved him down a flight of stairs, Joe came to visit, bringing Italian cookies and a small article.
The suspect had been a lieutenant in the Masucci crime family. And he'd been missing since Ed started physical therapy.
At Ed's look, Joe said simply, "We take care of our own."
