The lip tingling was basically a small way to show, "Hey, if you don't start something, you're going to start rutting away at the first thing/person you see."

So, the boys thought it was better to just deal with each other than to potentially have an embarrassing story where someone caught Sanji doing something inappropriate with something in the galley, or found Zoro had wanked off in the crow's nest.
