One of the things that I learned in high school that I actually remember is that there are some Latin American writers who use something called "magical realism", where they can write a story about a guy having wings, and it's just kind of understood as "normal". Granted, I'm Puerto Rican, not from South America, but I really liked the idea, so I just sort of thought about it and asked myself, "Wait, what if they grew in during puberty? Kids are known to do stupid things to themselves like self-mutilation..."
Considering that you've got a question about where he got the wings, I'll have to see about including it in another story -- possibly the sequel. Most likely, I'll have to think of something good that isn't, "Oh, Carson's a fae, and he was replaced at birth with Carson's mother's real baby, or whatever."
I guess the best answer right now is to turn your brain off and admire the not-so-pretty wings? *hangs head* I'm sorry I don't have anything better at the moment, but I'm more than sure that other characters will ask about them at some point. :D
Thank you again for your comment -- if nothing else, thinking about this might help me kickstart the sequel. :D
