I can see Bertie as a knight in a very well-tailored suit, at least in terms of his moral standards and such.

Oh, that's a very clearly stated character trait for book canon!Bertie. He often explains that he tries to be a varry parfait gentil knight, or a preux chevalier, and that he can't be so ungallant as to hurt a girl's feelings (even if he dislikes her) because "one's either preux or one isn't." Poor darling obviously read Arthurian myth as a lad and took it to heart.
