I made my rounds in the trenches -- seeing a superior officer rather boosts the men's morale and all, nothing extraordinary there, especially since I had to see Blackadder about some business.

And there he was. His salute sharp, his expression polite, his "good afternoon, sir," very dutiful and prompt, his uniform neat.

And all of my arguments against... this affair between us... my self-loathing, my family's expectations, the fact that I loved a woman... everything went up in a puff of smoke.

He was there, a strong-limbed lad with an earnest face and innocent eyes.

And I wanted him.

Never mind that he was an officer under my command. Never mind that I saw him grow up from a young nipper crying over a bit of rabbit pie. Never mind that I am a heterosexual.

He made me want him, flying in the face of everything I've ever learned about -- ever believed about love.

He did this to me.

And how I hated him for it.

Very nice! Thank you for noting the definite age difference between George and Melchy -- I always thought it rather odd when other slashers ignored the backstory they had, and the rabbit pie. *sniffle*

How IC for Melchett to blame George for his sexuality, and to hate him for it. He's such a passionate character with no aptitude for self-examination. You've got him just right. Can't help but feel for him. Still want to hit him though because he reminded me about the rabbit pie he made of poor George's pet bunny. Grrrr. Thwack!
