One of the things I love about this fic is the way you play with gender politics and hierarchy. George may not be the brightest crayon in the box, but he's uniquely qualified to philosophize about the roles of men vs women and high ranking officers vs lower ranking ones, and how he relates to him. His conclusions were disturbingly honest, particularly about the importance of the General vs Georgina. I loved that it disturbed him that he knew he wasn't nearly as important, and thought his passing would have no effect upon the General's life; whereas, he might have an effect on Neumann due to his youth and lower rank. I don't know if he would for either. I think we've all thought things like that, and hoped we'd drop off to sleep soon. Of course, George doesn't stop to think how his social class might play into it all too. Enjoyed this a lot.
